Australia will receive a rebadged Renault Captur in place of the Mitsubishi Xforce HEV, which will debut in Thailand with a 1.6L hybrid drivetrain.
Long rumored to be Australia's next-generation ASX, the 2025 Mitsubishi Xforce compact SUV made its hybrid debut in Thailand before its later-year commercial release. However, don't expect to see the irate-looking run about in local showrooms despite its plans to produce in Thailand; Australia's new ASX will be a rebadged Renault Captur that is being imported from Europe.
However, the 1.6-liter four-cylinder petrol-electric hybrid powertrain of the Xforce HEV generates 85 kW and is expected to achieve a combined fuel efficiency of 4.1 L/100 km (NEDC). Power is sent to the front wheels using a two-speed transaxle. Its cabin design invariably reflects that of the internal combustion models, in keeping with Mitsubishi's current interior design philosophy.
The Xforce at least gives a hint about what may be on the horizon—hybrids—even though it isn't currently on the Australian radar.
HEVs are becoming more and more popular globally as a crucial electrified option that doesn't require charging infrastructure, which is why the Xforce HEV was introduced in Thailand, one of the brand's most important markets, according to Takao Kato, president and CEO of Mitsubishi Motors, who was present at the launch.
