Google Acquires Wiz for $32B in Historic Cybersecurity Deal

Google is set to acquire cybersecurity startup Wiz for $32 billion in its biggest-ever deal, strengthening its cloud security amid an AI-driven computing boom.

The acquisition of cybersecurity startup Wiz in a $32 billion cash deal marked Google’s biggest acquisition yet. This step is a part of Google’s sudden expansion into cloud computing, a prestigious but flourishing territory with the rise of artificial intelligence. Google plans to compete with Microsoft and Amazon to improve cloud security and services as the demand for AI-driven processing capacity rises.

Even while Google's primary sources of income are still search and advertising, the company's cloud revenue growth rose by 64% in the most recent fiscal year, reaching $43.2 billion in 2023. Wiz will be integrated into Google Cloud, upon regulatory approval, a division that has been swiftly gaining prominence.

Four Israeli entrepreneurs founded Wiz in 2020 and has rapidly become a top cloud security provider. The company, which is headquartered in New York, is expected to make $1 billion this year. According to Wiz CEO Assaf Rappaport, both firms share the vision of making cloud security more accessible, intelligent, and cost-effective.

Sundar Pichai, Chief Executive Officer of Google Inc., mentioned that Wiz's technologies will enhance security and also add to the cost-effectiveness of solutions offered on the Google Cloud platform. However, regulatory bodies will also analyze how the merger would affect competition and pricing. If granted approval, these acquisitions will affirm Google an established position as one of the leaders in cloud security and AI infrastructure.
