ABB Invests $120M to Expand US Electrification Production

By investing $120 million, ABB will increase capacity in vital industries like data centers and utilities and create 250 new jobs in the US as it expands its low-voltage electrification production.

On Monday, March 3, ABB announced that it will invest $120 million to expand the production capacity of its low-voltage electrification products in the US. The investment will enable ABB to meet increasing customer demand in a number of critical growth sectors, including data centers, buildings, and utilities.

ABB plans to expand the size of its current production plant in Senatobia, Mississippi, adding 200 new employments, and anticipates adding 50 new positions at a new advanced manufacturing facility in Selmer, Tennessee.

According to ABB CEO Morten Wierod, the expansion of important industries like utilities and data centers is fueling a steady rise in demand for sophisticated electrification technology. This news will help them expand in the US, which is ABB's biggest international market. Their US clients will continue to be at the forefront of the energy transformation thanks to their new facilities in Selmer and Senatobia, which will also assist them in achieving their objectives for productivity, performance, and energy efficiency.

ABB will invest $80 million to construct a new, 320,000-square-foot plant in Selmer, Tennessee, as part of the pledge. It is anticipated that replacing the current ABB Selmer operations would result in a more than 50% increase in production capacity. For large-scale industrial and technologically advanced facilities, such as data centers, factories, and high-rise residential and office buildings where reliable, high-quality electricity is necessary, the new facility will manufacture vital electrical distribution equipment. Businesses may streamline their power distribution using ABB's busway and bus plug solutions, enabling expansion or reconfiguration without requiring significant rewiring.  ABB's Selmer workforce will grow by more than 25% with the addition of 50 skilled positions from the new plant, which is anticipated to open in Q4 2026.
