In the nine months since the start of the current fiscal year 2024-2025 on April 1st, Myanmar imported more than 1.4 million tonnes of fertilizers, according to the Urea Fertilizer Purchasing and Distribution Steering Committee.
Hla Moe, the Union Minister for Cooperatives and Rural Development, who presided over the group, said it will keep assessing and suggesting the import of the remaining pesticides and fertilizers.
The Myanmar Fertilizer, Seed, and Pesticide Entrepreneurs Association (MFSPEA) is required to keep an eye on each business to determine whether or not it can import at the predetermined level. He went on to say that only businesses that can truly and fully import them should be given the authorization.
The steering committee is asked to oversee stores in each state and region to ensure that they adhere to the reference fertilizer prices after deducting transportation costs and profit margins, to report overcharging, to keep an eye out for market manipulation with piled-high stocks, and to collaborate with the relevant departments and officials. In order to guarantee timely imports of agricultural inputs, quality control, and equitable pricing, the union minister also spoke to the relevant departments.
To provide high-quality fertilizers for crops without shortages, the Fertilizer Committee now meets quarterly. Following the 41st meeting of the Fertilizer Committee, 11,573 fertilizer registrations were approved by the Fertilizer Technology Group. 1,957 registrations were voluntarily canceled with the approval of the persons involved. 2,793 registrations were revoked by the department due to their expiry, while 6,823 registrations are still being processed.
