On Thursday, Bharti Airtel announced it signed a purchase agreement with Ericsson US Dhaulagiri for about 5% of the Membership Interest in their US-based API Joint Venture.

Founded as a Limited Liability Company in Delaware, USA, on April 10, 2024, Ericsson US Dhaulagiri LLC has not yet begun operations. In order to promote innovation in digital services, it seeks to establish a partnership among international telecom operators to pool and market network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) globally.

According to a September report, Ericsson and Bharti Airtel, among other international telecom carriers, launched a new joint venture to market and consolidate network Application Programming Interfaces (APIs) worldwide. Through the partnership, a wider ecosystem of developer platforms would be able to access and implement standard APIs from various telecom service providers.

Based on the industry-wide CAMARA APIs (an open-source project led by the GSMA and the Linux Foundation), the newly established company will offer network APIs to a wide range of developer platforms, including hyperscalers (HCPs), Communications Platform as a Service (CPaaS) providers, System Integrators (SIs), and Independent Software Vendors (ISVs).

Airtel will purchase around 5% of the firm's membership stake in exchange for all cash; however, the corporation has not revealed the acquisition's cost, citing confidentiality concerns.

The promoter group and Airtel have also formally declared that they have no interest in purchasing Ericsson US Dhaulagiri, a company that develops network API software globally to spur innovation in digital services.
