Q3 aircraft

Due to supply chain issues, General Dynamics had another quarter with fewer aircraft deliveries than anticipated. Despite having plans to deploy up to 16 Gulfstream G700s, the aerospace and military business only delivered four in Q3. Out of a projected 15 units, the business delivered 11 in Q2.

"Three weeks before the end of Q3, the company still had a reasonable belief that it could deliver at least 11 G700s during the quarter," Novakovic said.

In Q3, Novakovic informed analysts that the business has supplied one fewer G600, G500, and G280 model annually.

In addition to the problems with vendor quality, the company's aerospace business was further impacted by delayed engine deliveries caused by scheduling on engine certifications. According to the CEO, there was a substantial requirement for repainting because the aircraft had been painted before getting the engines, increasing both the time and expense. Additionally, the corporation lost four days of output due to Hurricane Helene.

The CEO stated that the business still anticipates delivering about 42 G700 aircraft this year, including nine in November and 13 in December, adding that the difficulties are "largely behind us" despite the setbacks.

According to her, supply chain support during this crucial time is the true problem here.

The supply chain of General Dynamics has already experienced difficulties, including  the latest component shortages. The business criticized Honeywell, a supplier, for their delayed supplies in 2023. Later that year, the aerospace and military business did announce improvements to its supply chain, but the Israel-Hamas war interrupted aircraft manufacturing.
