Hyundai just made its 100 millionth vehicle, marking a significant milestone. The accomplishment took just 57 years, much quicker than Toyota, Volkswagen, Ford, and GM.
With long-range, fast-charging EVs rolling out, like the new IONIQ 5, Hyundai is laying the groundwork for a global sales run. Hyundai Motor continues to be creating its own trail in the automotive sector since 1967. Following the 1967 release of the Pony, Korea's first passenger automobile, Hyundai maintained its innovative streak throughout the 1980s and early 1990s with the introduction of the Sonata, Excel, and Elantra.
Hyundai created the Sonata (Y2) EV, their first electric vehicle prototype, in 1991. Hyundai's specialized IONIQ brand of electric vehicles was born in 2020, with the prototype serving as the seed.
The Hyundai IONIQ 5, a midsize electric SUV, debuted under the new name in 2021 and has since risen to the top of Hyundai global sales rankings. In 2022, Hyundai released the "electrified streamliner," or IONIQ 6, as a follow-up. Hyundai reached a significant milestone on September 30, 2024, when the IONIQ 5, the company's 100 millionth vehicle, came off the assembly line thanks to its committed electric vehicles.
Hyundai 100M milestone is still growing its worldwide presence. In an effort to reduce expenses and shorten production times, it launched an innovative robot-run smart plant in Singapore last year. Hyundai is set to commence operations at its $7.6 billion Metaplant America in Georgia early next month, with the aim of producing Hyundai electric vehicles.
