The British Fashion Council (BFC) announced Rick Owens, Chemena Kamali, John Galliano, Jonathan Anderson (for JW Anderson and Loewe), Miuccia Prada (for Miu Miu), Pieter Mulier, and Jonathan Anderson as the nominees for Designer of the Year at the Fashion Awards 2024.
According to the BFC, the award honors British or foreign designers whose creations have had a significant influence on the market, "defining the shape of global fashion." Anderson won Designer of the Year the previous year.
The BFC Foundation, which provides financial support and business coaching to emerging UK-based enterprises, is the beneficiary of the 1989 Fashion Awards, which will be held on December 2 at London's Royal Albert Hall. This event is sponsored by Pandora.
Craig Green, Grace Wales Bonner, Anderson, Kiko Kostadinov, Kim Jones, and Martine Rose—the latter of whom took home the category prize the previous year—are the contenders for British Menswear Designer of the Year. The following designers are vying for British Womenswear Designer of the Year: Simone Rocha, Anderson, Maximilian Davis (the winner from the previous year), Roksanda Ilinčić, and Erdem Moralıoğlu.
The Fashion Awards 2024 nominee list was selected by a jury consisting of buyers and members of the press. The list will now be submitted to a voting committee comprised of 1,000 top industry players.
Tyler Mitchell, a photographer, filmmaker, and artist, has previously been named the recipient of the Isabella Blow Award for Fashion Creator by the BFC. Mitchell's work was described as exceptionally inventive and progressive in a statement by BFC Chief Executive Caroline Rush. It portrayed the genuine and complex tales of people with Black identities. She continued by saying that Mitchell, who is constantly on the cutting edge, works to make fashion pictures more realistic by challenging the conventional ideas of beauty.
