Virgin Galactic will now have a place to house its future fleet of commercial spacecraft, which will be launched the following year.
The new "Delta" class spacecraft from Virgin Galactic are scheduled to launch no earlier than 2026. On June 8, during the last flight of their former spacecraft, the VSS Unity, a Turkish astronaut and three space tourists entered suborbital space and briefly experienced weightlessness. For one of the first Delta class flights, Virgin Galactic has already announced an international crew. This crew will include former Virgin Galactic private astronaut Kellie Gerardi, an American who flew on Galactic 05 in November 2023, as well as Canadian Shawna Pandya and Irishwoman Norah Patten, who will not be going into space until 2026.
The aerospace business said in a statement that work has been finished on its new multi-use facility in Mesa, Arizona, and that plans are currently in motion to make it the primary location for constructing and assembling its next generation Delta space planes. This will aid in the creation of the company's fleet of Delta class vehicles.
By year's end, Virgin Galactic hopes to deploy the last manufacturing hardware. After that, the Virgin Galactic crew expects construction to start on its first two Delta ships in 2025, with the delivery of important subassemblies like the wings, fuselage, and feathering system.
Following completion of the production process and ground testing, the spaceships will be flown to Spaceport America in New Mexico for a flight test. Following this, commercial operations are anticipated to start in 2026.
