The Bahamas Ventures into Space Tourism with SpaceX Collaboration

The LOA encompasses Bahamian landings that will support SpaceX's Starlink mission.

In a groundbreaking development, the Ministry of Tourism, Investments & Aviation (MOTIA) has announced a historic Letter of Agreement (LOA) with SpaceX, heralding The Bahamas' entry into the realm of space tourism.

The LOA signifies a strategic partnership between The Bahamas and SpaceX, positioning the archipelago nation as a premier destination for witnessing booster landings. SpaceX, renowned for its pioneering efforts in space exploration, is finalizing mission designs that will see one of its autonomous drone ships serve as a Falcon 9 landing site east of The Exumas, providing an exclusive spectacle visible only from The Bahamas.

This unprecedented collaboration offers tourists the unique opportunity to witness awe-inspiring space events from various vantage points, including cruise ships, resorts, and tourist hotspots across The Bahamas. The exclusive visibility of rocket landings on an autonomous drone ship from Bahamian islands distinguishes the destination as a one-of-a-kind global attraction.

The LOA encompasses Bahamian landings that will support SpaceX's Starlink mission while also contributing to critical endeavors such as enhancing first responders' capabilities, ensuring connectivity during disasters, and ultimately saving lives.

Chester Cooper, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Tourism, Investments & Aviation, expressed his enthusiasm for the collaboration, stating, "This Letter of Agreement with SpaceX marks a new era for The Bahamas. We are honored to work with SpaceX to enable their Falcon 9 rockets to safely land on an autonomous droneship within Bahamian waters, helping to continue their rocket reusability efforts."
