Northwood Aerospace aims to revolutionize space sector by streamlining the deployment of satellite ground stations.
Renowned for her chart-topping hit "Ready or Not," former Disney star Bridgit Mendler is embarking on a new career path as the CEO of a space technology startup. After honing her skills as a researcher at the prestigious Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and pursuing studies at Harvard Law School, Mendler is now at the helm of Northwood Aerospace, a Massachusetts-based startup with ambitious goals in the space industry.
Contrary to traditional expectations, Northwood Aerospace does not focus on building rockets or satellites. Instead, the company specializes in mass-producing ground stations, the large circular antennas crucial for connecting with satellites in space.
With approximately $6 million in funding secured from notable investors including the Founders Fund, Andreessen Horowitz, and Also Capital, Mendler leads Northwood Aerospace alongside her husband, Griffin Cleverly, and software head Shaurya Luthra, both serving as co-founders.
Northwood Aerospace aims to revolutionize the space technology sector by streamlining the production and deployment of satellite ground stations. These ground stations are meticulously designed to offer unparalleled flexibility and efficiency, catering initially to companies operating satellites in low-Earth orbit.
Much like renting server space from leading providers such as Amazon Web Services or Microsoft, Northwood Aerospace's innovative approach allows clients to access essential services without the significant capital expenditure typically associated with building and deploying their own ground station networks.
