Boston Metal launches a high-value metals production in Brazil

Boston Metal opens Brazil's first Molten Oxide Electrolysis technology plant, recovering high-value metals from mining waste, a significant turning point for the company.

Today marks the opening of the first plant for Boston Metal's Molten Oxide Electrolysis (MOE) technology platform, which recovers high-value metals from mining waste in Brazil. Boston Metal is a global provider of metal technology solutions. As Boston Metal strives to commercialize MOE for green steel in 2026, this deployment represents a significant turning point for the company's operations and technology. The governor of the state of Minas Gerais, local officials, and several members of the company's investor syndicate are present for the Boston Metal do Brasil inauguration ceremony today.

Boston Metal will enable mining firms in Brazil to recoup value from liability and further the metals industry's circular economy. The company's MOE technology employs electricity to extract valuable metals from complicated, low-concentration materials currently regarded as waste. This platform will eventually be used in commercial deployments of the company's green steel solution. This allows mining businesses to use this naturally occurring by-product of the manufacturing of metals to establish new revenue streams, thereby reducing the financial and environmental responsibilities associated with slag.

Boston Metal is expanding its Brazilian operations and local team to over 250. It is set to build a chromium metal manufacturing facility in West Virginia for the U.S. Department of Energy.
