For the first time, the world got an unauthorized peek inside Apple's mixed reality headset thanks to the do-it-yourself repair experts at iFixit.
A thorough analysis of EyeSight was provided on iFixit's blog, which goes well with the video. According to the blog, EyeSight is actually "a bunch of videos of your eyes," not just one video feed.
The process begins with the OLED panel showing "multiple face images" that are divided up, passed through a lenticular layer, then passed through another layer that is "similarly lenticular" to enlarge the image to fit the entire area, and finally passed through a secondary lens as two slightly different images that appear to be in three dimensions, creating a 3D effect for your eyes.
When combined, all of these produce the hazy, dark image that numerous reviewers have claimed makes it difficult to see the eyes on the Vision Pro's external display.
The Vision Pro and its screen without the outer layers are visible in a tweet from iFixit CEO Kyle Wiens. Removing the outer layers also reveals the cameras and sensors positioned all around the device. The video enters and exits really rapidly.
There will be more, though, as iFixit claims that the headset is too intricate for a single video and that they will release another that demonstrates "just how deep this rabbit hole goes."
