The Green Fuels Alliance India (GFAI) initiative was introduced by Denmark at the Global Investors Meet (GIM) 2024.
This initiative aims to foster collaboration in the sustainable energy solutions sector and advance the two nations' shared global goal of becoming carbon neutral.
Through innovation, cooperation, and partnerships between Danish industries and their Indian counterparts, the alliance—headed by the Danish Embassy and Consulate-General of Denmark in India—has the potential to significantly advance the green fuels sector, including green hydrogen.
The principal aim of the GFAI is to facilitate the growth of sustainable energy in India by creating an environment that fosters cooperation between enterprises, governmental bodies, academic institutions, and financial stakeholders. Maersk, Topsoe, Umwelt Energy, Mash Makes, European Sustainable Solutions, Novozymes, Danfoss, Brdr. Christensen, and Hydrogen Denmark are among the nine innovative Danish organizations that have committed to being founding members of the GFAI program. The India Hydrogen Alliance, the Danish Energy Agency, the State of Green, and the Energy Consortium of the Indian Institute of Technology-Madras make up the advisory board of the GFAI.
India is aiming to achieve net zero emissions by 2070, and this announcement coincides with that goal.
An example of the Green Strategic Partnership (GSP) between Denmark and India was signed in 2020, and the GFAI is one of its initiatives.
Such international cooperation, according to Denmark's ambassador to India, H.E. Freddy Svane, could significantly support the world's transition to a greener economy.
