US signals resistance to Iran peace proposal as tensions persist over nuclear demands, blockade issues, and stalled negotiations between both sides.
US President Donald Trump is unlikely to accept Iran's most recent peace proposal, according to people involved with internal negotiations, in the Middle East war latest update. While delaying talks on Tehran's nuclear program, this proposal aims to reopen the Strait of Hormuz and lift the US naval blockade of Iranian ports.
Trump and senior national security officials discussed the issue during a high-level meeting on Monday in the White House Situation Room. According to officials, the president is still not satisfied with the idea and is not expected to approve it as it stands.
According to sources, the administration is worried that approving the plan could weaken Trump's consistent position that Iran must be permitted to get nuclear weapons. The president has emphasized time and again that any agreement must be completely based on US goals and terms.
US Secretary of State Marco Rubio described the proposal as an improvement over previous expectations but emphasized that any agreement must include strict guarantees prohibiting Iran from developing nuclear weapons.
Iranian Foreign Minister Seyed Abbas Araghchi, meanwhile, attributed Washington's "destructive habits," which include changing demands, ongoing sanctions and contradictory commitments, to the political slowdown. Sergei Lavrov was present when he made the comments during a meeting with Russian President Vladimir Putin in Saint Petersburg, reflecting broader concerns around the Iran peace proposal, Middle East war.
Following recent military escalations and a precarious ceasefire established on April 8, tensions are still high. Iran declined to continue participating in previous rounds of negotiations in Islamabad, citing continuous US naval actions and unmet diplomatic prospects, which ended in no agreement.
Thus, Business Fortune is of the view that diplomatic deadlock may persist as both sides maintain firm positions and strategic priorities.
