Amazon India has expanded its air cargo network by adding a new route to strengthen logistics and speeding up deliveries across the Northeast.
Amazon has extended its specialized air cargo service, Amazon Air, to Northeast India with the addition of additional flights linking Kolkata and Guwahati. Through an integrated air and surface multimodal network, the expansion is anticipated to increase delivery speeds by up to five times throughout the seven states: Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Manipur, Meghalaya, Mizoram, Nagaland, and Tripura.
Civil Aviation Minister Ram Mohan Naidu Kinjarapu launched the first Amazon Air trip to Guwahati from the Indira Gandhi International Airport in New Delhi on Friday. The expansion will provide more dependable access to consumers across the country for local vendors, especially those in horticulture and specialty produce. Businesses in the Northeast can now engage more completely in India's expanding digital economy and access a wider consumer base.
According to Ravi Kota, IAS, Chief Secretary, Assam, Significant job prospects for young people in the area are anticipated as a result of these improvements in logistical infrastructure. He stated that it is anticipated that the operationalization of Amazon Air services will further aid in the development of jobs and support the region's overall economic growth.
Abhinav Singh, Amazon’s Vice President of Operations for India and Australia, stated that since launching Amazon.in in 2013, they have continuously made investments to establish one of the biggest logistics networks in India, enabling them to service customers wherever they may be. This action is a component of a larger initiative by Amazon to improve the nation's logistics infrastructure. The Northeast expansion is the most recent phase of Amazon Air's development since its founding and an indicator of the future direction of India's e-commerce logistics infrastructure.
