Ghaziabad Sisters Gaming Tragedy

Three minor sisters tragically ended their lives, allegedly under the influence of a task based online Korean game.

Three minor sisters jumped from their ninth-floor apartment around 2.15 am early Wednesday, in Uttar Pradesh's Ghaziabad, and left a handwritten suicide note. Pakhi (12), Prachi (14), and Vishika (16) were siblings obsessed with Korean task-based game which took their lives.

One by one, the sisters walked to their balcony in the dark of night, opened the door, and jumped out of a window. Their parents, neighbors, and security guards at the apartment complex in Bharat City, Ghaziabad, were awakened by their cries and the sound of the bodies hitting the ground.

A senior police officer said that over the past few years, the use of online games had reportedly increased, and the children begun skipping school frequently. He added that the police department are examining the victims’ mobile phones and speaking to family members to understand the sequence of events.

The sisters were addicted to a Korean love game, so much in fact, that they did hardly anything else. They had reportedly stopped going to school two years ago. Their obsession grew and all were killed due to extreme gaming.

According to the senior police officer Nimish Patel the investigation so far has not revealed any specific game name. But it is clear that the girls were influenced by Korean culture and have mentioned it in the suicide note. For the past few days, they had been denied access to a mobile phone, a restriction that appeared to have affected them.

Before committing suicide, the three sisters left an eight-page note in a pocket diary apologizing to their parents and explaining their gaming habits. Meanwhile, a writing on their room's wall said, "I am very, very alone". And it is stated that Prachi, the middle sister, is the one leading her siblings.

An investigation is ongoing to find out whether the triple suicide is connected to an in-game task, and the online gaming software has been identified as a possible trigger for the suicide.
