France Replaces Zoom by 2027

France plans to ban American videoconferencing services by 2027, replacing them with its own Visio app.

France plans to withdraw American videoconferencing services like Zoom, Team and replace them with its own Visio app, according to the Minister Delegate for the Civil Service, David Amiel.

The Minister stated that people have become dependent on programs like Teams or Zoom. They need to overcome this harmful habit at the national level to ensure the security of their negotiations under any circumstances. Therefore, they will implement the videoconferencing solution Visio across all French administrations by 2027.

Amiel claims that Visio is a "100% French development." The Interministerial Digital Intelligence Unit (DINUM) created the service. According to the legislator, the program is anticipated to save the French government millions of euros that were set aside for contract renewals with overseas software companies.

About 40,000 people have already used the French service, the Minister Delegate continued. The official underlined that the program makes use of an algorithm that makes it possible to quickly obtain a text transcript of a discussion. This action, which involves substituting home platforms for foreign ones, is a part of a larger movement for "digital sovereignty".

Due to General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and data privacy concerns, France has previously banned Google Workspace and Microsoft 365 in public schools. This is a follow-up to earlier limitations. Further, they prohibited government employees from using recreational apps on their work phones, such as Netflix, Instagram, Twitter (X), and TikTok, starting in 2023.

In order to protect youngsters from harmful content, President Emmanuel Macron is also improving the legislation that would prohibit children under the age of 15 from using social media as of late January 2026.
