Business Fortune Texas Mutual Names New COO

Prateek Sangal is appointed COO of Texas Mutual in an effort to improve digital capabilities, bolster operations, and solidify its position in the $6 billion Texas workers' compensation market.

With effect from October 20, Texas Mutual Insurance Company has named Prateek Sangal as its new Chief Operating Officer (COO). Sangal will be responsible for all insurance operations in his new position, encompassing underwriting, premium audit, and policyholder services.

Sangal's leadership will be essential as the company looks to improve service and fortify its position in the Texas workers' compensation market, according to Jeanette Ward, president and CEO of Texas Mutual. Ward emphasized Sangal's combination of strategic insight and operational discipline. He has a wealth of industry expertise; he began his career at Progressive in data and analytics and has held profit-and-loss leadership positions at Farmers, CNA, and other insurers.

His most recent position was with AmTrust Financial Services, where he oversaw a sizable commercial insurance portfolio as senior vice president and head of digital for North America property and casualty. Under his direction, the business achieved significant operational reductions and more than doubled the workers' compensation premium on the digital channel.

Sangal was chief commercial lines officer at NSM Insurance Group, a managing general agency with a focus on specialized commercial programs, before joining AmTrust. Underwriting, operations, technology, marketing, and distribution for a variety of products, such as commercial property, business owner's policy, general and professional liability, workers' compensation, and property excess and surplus, were all under his supervision there.

When Sangal took the job, he emphasized the importance of collaborating with Texas Mutual teams to foster expansion and offer value to stakeholders and policyholders.

With Sangal's hiring, Texas Mutual will be better able to deploy operational improvements, digital solutions, and underwriting expertise to overcome market challenges, sustain growth, and continue offering Texas employers competitive workers' compensation coverage.

Texas remains one of the largest workers' compensation markets in the country, with yearly premiums exceeding $6 billion.
