Scottish Gang Rivals Shot Dead Outside Spanish Bar

In a suspected gangland execution, Eddie Lyons Jr. and Ross Monaghan, two Scots connected to Glasgow criminal clans, were shot dead outside a tavern in Fuengirola.

According to BBC Scotland, they are Eddie Lyons Jr. and Ross Monaghan, who was previously cleared of a notorious gangland murder. On Saturday night, a masked shooter opened fire at Monaghan's Bar in Fuengirola, Andalucia, killing them both. According to local media, a vehicle pulled up outside the packed pub shortly after 23:00, marking the start of the attack. The shooter then took off in the same car.

Ross Monaghan was previously linked with a widely reported killing of one of Glasgow's most feared gangland leaders, Kevin Carroll, also known as Gerbil. Carroll was shot thirteen times in 2010 while he was sitting in a car outside a store in Robroyston, Glasgow. Carroll was an enforcer for the criminal family Daniel. Although Monaghan was charged with both murder and disposing of evidence after the killing, he was later found not guilty due to a lack of evidence. When he dropped his daughter off at a primary school in Glasgow in 2017, he sustained a shoulder injury. Around this period, he is said to have relocated to Spain. Carroll is also suspected of being responsible for the 2006 attack that resulted in Eddie Lyons Jr. being shot and injured.

Regarding a potential connection to a recent gangland war in Scotland, Police Scotland stated that it was unable to comment and referred questions to the Spanish authorities. For more than 20 years, the Lyons and Daniel criminal families have been at odds, leading to many brutal attacks. However, Madrid-based BBC correspondent Guy Hedgecoe said that numerous other shootings in the Costa del Sol region in recent weeks are thought to be related to drug-related crimes.

Located on the waterfront, Monaghans is a well-liked tavern among expats and visitors. On the night of the incident, the pub had been watching the UEFA Champions League final. The Foreign Office stated that although it had not received any requests for consular assistance, its employees were prepared to help any British citizens who might need it.
