The 1,959-foot Skyscraper in Tianjin is expected to resume construction and be completed by 2027 after being put on hold since 2015.
According to Chinese media, work on the world's tallest vacant building may resume as early as next week, over a decade after it was put on hold. It is presently anticipated that the 597-meter (1,959-foot) Goldin Finance 117, which was completed in the port city of Tianjin in northern China, will be completed in 2027. Due to significant financial challenges, the project has been unfinished since 2015.
The supertall building, known as "China 117," was designed to serve as a beacon for a flourishing financial center. Construction of the skyscraper began in 2008 and was nearly complete when the building's developer had financial troubles. CNN claims that new investors have also entered the market after a construction permit, mentioning a contract value of about 569 million yuan, which appeared in local Chinese media.
The P&T Group and ECADI came up with the original plan for the tower, which was supposed to include a financial center, several offices, and an upscale hotel. Given that so many things have changed in China since the project started in 2008, it is unclear how closely the renewed project might be similar to its original designs.
Currently, the Goldin Finance 117 at 1,959 feet would not be allowed to be constructed according to the building regulations of China. However, it gets qualified for completion because work began earlier, back in 2008. When the Goldin Finance 117 reaches its maximum height, it will be ranked as the country's second-highest building, behind the 2,073-foot Shanghai Tower.
