For Saudi Aramco's Carbon Capture & Storage project, which is anticipated to be operational by 2027, Larsen & Toubro will offer EPC services.
According to the agreement, the primary EPC (engineering, procurement, and construction) services for the first phase of Aramco's planned Carbon Capture & Storage (CCS) hub in the kingdom would be supplied by L&T Energy Hydrocarbon (LTEH). To guarantee the project's successful completion, L&T will supply the facility's full engineering design, source and acquire all required tools and supplies, and oversee the building process.
The agreement is a component of Aramco's Accelerated Carbon Capture & Sequestration (ACCS) program, which aims to increase the company's capacity for CCS and reduce carbon emissions. As Aramco works to reduce its carbon footprint and solidify its place in the global energy revolution, Phase I is an essential part of the company's long-term environmental strategy.
CCS is a crucial component of Saudi Arabia's 2060 net-zero goal, which was declared in the Saudi Green Initiative. The Aramco CCS center in Jubail, which is situated in the Eastern region of Saudi Arabia, is intended to facilitate the capture and sequestration of 9 MtCO2 emissions annually during the project's initial phase, which is anticipated to be completed by 2027.
About 6 MtCO2 will come from Aramco gas facilities, while the remaining 3 MtCO2 will come from other industrial sources. The CCS project will draw on high-purity CO2 streams from natural gas processing and other industrial sources. Following dehydration and compression to pipeline requirements, the CO2 stream will ultimately be stored in an onshore saline aquifer.
