With assistance from the UK Government's SheTrades Programme, a delegation of eight enterprises worth of Bangladeshi women entrepreneurs will conduct a trade trip to the UK in February 2025.
High-level talks with UK lawmakers, investors, and business leaders will be part of their tour, which will also encourage cross-border commerce between the two nations, notably under the UK's Developing Countries Trading Scheme (DCTS). Bangladesh may trade duty-free and quota-free on all goods except weapons because of the UK's generous preferential trading program, the DCTS. Bangladesh has the potential to save £317 million in tariffs on its exports to the UK each year thanks to the DCTS, which is the most amount of money saved by any nation eligible for the program.
50 women-led businesses from six African nations (Ghana, Nigeria, Rwanda, Kenya, Zimbabwe, and Mozambique) and four Asian nations (Bangladesh, Nepal, Pakistan, and Mongolia) will travel to Manchester on February 11th as part of an initiative being carried out by the International Trade Centre to engage in business-to-business (B2B) meetings with UK companies.
British buyers who wish to diversify their supply chains and boost the competitiveness of their products will meet one-on-one with women-led businesses in the fresh and processed food, textiles and apparel, handicrafts, beauty, information technology, and business process outsourcing sectors.
As part of the SheTrades Commonwealth+ Program, UK International Development is funding this mission, which is being held in collaboration with the Greater Manchester Chamber of Commerce. The event is also being supported by the West & North Yorkshire Chamber of Commerce, the Greater Birmingham Chambers of Commerce, and the London Chamber of Commerce & Industry.
