Wallace & Gromit is back, and Nick Park considers Peter Sallis's legacy while Wallace has a new voice.
It's likely that the two stars of Vengeance Most Fowl would rank at the top of the list if you asked TV fans to select their favorite duo act.
It's Wallace & Gromit's first big role in more than ten years, and the first movie without Peter Sallis's voice as the cheese-loving inventor.
It's been really emotional [working on this project] since they lost Peter, since he had such a distinctive and creative voice, according to Nick Park of Sallis, who passed away in 2017 at the age of 96. So, it's really difficult for anyone to be in his position. Fortunately, they have a young actor they've known for a long time who can do a great job impersonating Wallace. He has generously filled in and is excellent. Distinguishing them is difficult.
The 47-year-old actor and voice actor Ben Whitehead says he is honored to be playing the part. Take a bow, Ben. But also acknowledges that they feel some strain.
According to Nick Park, the BBC is under a lot of pressure. As it's a really well-liked character. For [2005's] The Curse of the Were-Rabbit movie, he had the opportunity to collaborate with Peter [Sallis] a few times. Therefore, there is a lot of pressure involved. Additionally, he is really appreciative of Aardman for giving him so much time to develop the character.
He went on to suggest that you kind of have to do the 'hmm' and the 'hee-hee' by displaying certain Wallace-isms that sound just like Peter Sallies' Yorkshire tones. Unquestionably the vowel elongation, such as "cheeeeese"!
