Teddy Bridgewater returns to the Detroit Lions, bringing leadership and experience as the team enters the playoffs, having led his high school to a state championship.

The 32-year-old quarterback Teddy Bridgewater is making a comeback to the NFL after a brief hiatus to coach high school football. He joined the Detroit Lions, rejoining the team he supported behind Jared Goff the previous season.

Bridgewater transformed a failing program into a dominant one by leading his old mater, Miami Northwestern Senior High School, to a Florida Class 3A state championship this season. In the off-season, he said, he would like to instruct high school football while playing for the NFL and winning a championship.

Bridgewater's professionalism and leadership were commended by Lions coach Dan Campbell, who also emphasized his importance to the club as they get ready for the playoffs. Bridgewater's return, according to Campbell, does not indicate that he is unhappy with backup quarterback Hendon Hooker, who is still growing and learning under Goff.

Bridgewater has played for the Vikings, Saints, Panthers, Broncos, and Dolphins throughout his NFL career. Despite major setbacks in his career, such as a serious knee injury in 2016, he has often shown his fortitude.

The Lions want to increase their depth and experience as they prepare for playoff play with Bridgewater's return.
