The Breville Oracle Jet review: a $2,000 coffee maker with an in-built computer

Breville Oracle Jet

The $1,999.95 Breville Oracle Jet espresso maker might be the best smart coffee maker of 2024.

It features a touchscreen. It gets software updates by connecting to a wireless network. The Jet, however, is made to blast hot water at high pressure and turn it into coffee, unlike most other gadgets.

The Jet is an improvement over Breville's top-tier Oracle superautomatic appliance. Only in that it is an elder sibling who relocated from their tiny hometown to a large metropolis and now holds a prominent position does it bear resemblance to the Breville Barista Express.

Both the Oracle Jet and the Breville Barista Express use the same fundamental mechanism to grind coffee beans into a portafilter and brew them to make espresso. However, the Oracle Jet's grinder also tamps the grinds, eliminating a human step from the process, just like Breville's other superautomatic devices. You are also guided through the process of preparing your drink using the graphical interface. It helps to reduce the fear of a difficult process.

Another new capability that the Breville Oracle Jet features is cold espresso. It's not chilly, precisely. Breville product manager Matthew Davis clarified that none of these items on the market, including theirs, can cool the water. Rather, to brew shots at room temperature, the Oracle Jet takes ambient temperature water from the reservoir, adds a little heat, lowers the temperature, and then applies pressure. Your iced latte will taste stronger if there is less ice melting in it.

Local espresso machine repair businesses refuse to service Breville machines because, according to Espresso Repair Experts, the firm doesn't provide the public with adequate spare parts or technical documentation.

Breville's strategy focuses on designing machines with the highest level of long-term durability while facilitating the easy replacement of high-wear parts. Despite being several years past their warranty, their coffee makers continue to function well because of this concept. However, it's an additional thing to think about, and the Breville Oracle Jet costs $2,000.
