This resolution is an important deviation from Buffett's longtime commitment
Warren Buffet, the Chairman of Berkshire Hathaway, has amended the future disposition of his assets. He has amended his will to exclude the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation from charitable contributions after his death. In a recent interview with Wall Street Journal, he stated that his significant fortune, estimated around $128 million, will be distributed to a new charitable organization run by his three children.
Buffet said that his unwavering belief in his children, who have inherited his philanthropic legacy, inspired him to rewrite the will and redirect his money away from the Gates Foundation, where it had been previously pledged to support global health and development efforts. As cited in the report, Buffet declared, “I feel very, very good about the values of my three children, and I have 100% trust in how they will carry out things.” This resolution is an important deviation from Buffett's longtime commitment since he had invested more than 99% of his fortune in the Gates Foundation and numerous family-oriented charities. Despite this change, Buffett's philanthropic contributions remain substantial. Berkshire Hathaway recently allocated a portion of Buffett’s money, totaling 13 million Class B shares, to the Gates Foundation Trust, along with substantial contributions made to family charities.
While the Gates Foundation expressed gratitude for Buffett’s historic donations and recent contributions totaling $43 billion, the revised will marks a new chapter in Buffett’s philanthropic journey.
