Despite Covishield occasionally causing complications, Covaxin remains risk-free and has no adverse effects.
The manufacturer said in a statement that safety came first in the development of Covaxin, then efficacy. According to Bharat Biotech, the vaccine underwent evaluation by over 27,000 participants as part of the licensure procedure.
It was licensed for limited use in a clinical trial with several hundred thousand participants for safety reporting. According to the statement, the Union Ministry of Health also assessed the vaccine. Additionally, it said that pharmacovigilance, or safety monitoring, was maintained for the duration of Covaxin's product life cycle.
Bharat Biotech states that Covaxin has a strong safety record, with no reported cases of serious side effects like blood clots, thrombocytopenia, TTS, VITT, pericarditis, or myocarditis. The Bharat Biotech team knew that the COVID-19 vaccinations would only be effective for a limited time, but could have long-lasting effects on patient safety. Therefore, the main goal for all of their vaccines was safety.
The vaccine company said Covaxin was the only Covid-19 vaccine in India's immunization program to have been tested for effectiveness in the country. AstraZeneca admitted in court that its vaccine could, in rare cases, cause thrombosis with thrombocytopenia syndrome. Shortly after, Bharat Biotech made a similar announcement. The Serum Institute of India produced the AstraZeneca vaccine, which was marketed as Covishield in the nation.
