Over time, Apple Maps has progressively evolved to become a legitimate rival to Google Maps. A recently submitted Apple patent provides insight into a potential future addition to the app.
The "User Interfaces for Customized Navigation Routes" patent, found by Wccftech, explains how to change recommended routes based on a vehicle's profile and remaining fuel or charge.
You may get different routes based on your vehicle type and traffic restrictions. On the journey, you would also be routed to an appropriate petrol station or charging station if needed.
The main goal is to make it easier and more convenient to use Apple Maps to go from point A to point B, while spending as little time as possible using the app while driving.
The license plate on a car is one instance of a profile feature described in the patent. This information would help find a better route in cities where certain areas ban specific cars at certain times.
Apple guarantees standard privacy for users, which means that any vehicle-related data entered or gathered by the app will stay on the device and not be sent to Apple's cloud servers.
This would also need to be displayed on an iPhone and, if available, a connected CarPlay dashboard. Later this year, a revised CarPlay interface is anticipated, and the concepts presented in this patent may be incorporated. Patent disclaimers reveal businesses' ideas and research, but do not guarantee that the concepts will be used in a finished product.
