Two Google scientists are in talks with investors to start an AI startup in Paris, according to sources familiar with the talks, as per Bloomberg News.

According to Bloomberg News on Friday, which cited people familiar with the talks, two scientists at Google's new tab artificial intelligence subsidiary DeepMind are in talks with investors to launch an AI firm in Paris.

According to the story, investors have been in talks with scientists Laurent Sifre and Karl Tuyls, who have already announced their intention to quit DeepMind, about a potential financing round that may raise over 200 million euros ($217.84 million). The source also stated that the company, now known as Holistic, might be concentrating on developing a new AI model.

Google or DeepMind did not comment on the situation. About ten years ago, Alphabet-owned Google purchased DeepMind to further AI research. Since then, the company has launched its own products to compete with generative AI chatbots like Microsoft-backed ChatGPT. A former DeepMind researcher co-founded Mistral AI, a Paris-based company that announced in December that it had secured 385 million euros ($419.34 million) in its second fundraising round in just seven months. Mistral AI's success in fundraising highlights the growing interest and investment in AI technology. This development signifies the potential for further advancements in the field as companies like Google and DeepMind continue to push the boundaries of AI research and development.
