Drones in the air have changed the conflict in Ukraine. More unmanned ground robots are being deployed by the militaries of Russia and Ukraine, and they are colliding with one another.

The Ukraine battle has transformed as a result of aerial drones. The armies of Russia and Ukraine are currently deploying additional unmanned ground robots, and they are running into each other. A robot with a boxy shape zips along the rough, broken road near the Ukrainian city of Avdiivka. The robot, a four-wheeled vehicle at knee height, slithers from side to side, carrying supplies and ammunition for the Russian forces. But it's being observed. A drone from Ukraine is hovering over the road, following the robot's moves. Abruptly, a second drone crashes into the robot, destroying it beyond repair.

The attack, which took place in early December and was reported by the 110th Mechanized Brigade of the Ukrainian military, is one of a few but increasing instances in Russia's conflict in Ukraine where simple robots have been employed to fight other simple robots. Soldiers have armed ground-based robots with weaponry from aerial drones, while other small autonomous bots are being equipped with jamming technologies to take down drones in the sky.

Small aerial drones have been heavily involved in the war in Ukraine since Russia's full-scale invasion in February 2022. Thousands of drones have been deployed to transport bombs, monitor the battlefield, and observe enemy activities. Videos taken by the Russian and Ukrainian military depict the drones — which are frequently first-person view (FPV) drones — attacking soldiers and tanks. Unmanned ground vehicles, or UGVs, are a new breed of robot that has emerged in recent months as the battle has continued.
