Most small business owners know the feeling that they need to attract more customers online but hiring a marketing agency often means dealing with expensive long contracts and services that don’t always match their needs. While larger companies have the budget to invest in expert digital marketing, many local businesses are left trying to figure it out on their own.

Chris Fawcett, the founder of Third Marble Marketing saw this imbalance long before it became a common conversation. After spending decades managing large-scale e-commerce operations and overseeing significant direct marketing budgets, he realized that the tools and expertise driving online success were available but they were out of reach for many small and medium-sized businesses. Traditional agencies often focused on bigger clients, leaving smaller businesses with limited options and little personal attention.

In 2009, Chris Fawcett founded Third Marble Marketing to make professional search engine marketing and SEO services affordable, transparent, and focused on delivering real results for local businesses. Rather than relying on complicated marketing language or one-size-fits-all solutions, the company built its reputation on honest advice, proven processes and practical execution.

In this exclusive interview with Business Fortune, Third Marble Marketing reflects on the journey of building a search marketing company dedicated to helping small businesses succeed online. And how Third Marble’s specialized approach, transparent partnerships, and focus on measurable outcomes are creating lasting value for agencies and the clients they serve.

Third Marble Marketing has built a strong niche around white-label Google Ads and SEO services. What strategic thinking led you to specialize deeply rather than offer a broad spectrum of digital marketing services?

Early on, we recognized that trying to be a “full-service” agency handling everything from social media graphics to website development often dilutes quality and inflates costs. Search engine marketing (specifically Google Ads and SEO) is unique because it targets high-intent consumers at the exact moment they are looking for a solution. By focusing exclusively on search, we developed deep expertise in the field. Specializing also allowed us to create an “assembly-line” approach to campaign management, making us the ideal behind-the-scenes fulfillment partner for agencies that want to expand their services without taking on the significant overhead of building an in-house search team.

With increasing complexity in platforms like Google Ads, what are the biggest challenges agencies face today, and how is Third Marble helping them navigate these effectively?

The biggest challenge is the rapid pace of change. Google continuously shifts toward automation, Smart Bidding, Performance Max, and AI-driven broad match. For a generalist agency, keeping up with these constant algorithm shifts and platform overhauls is a full-time job in itself. Agencies often struggle with rising cost-per-click rates and black-box automation that eats into margins. Third Marble helps agencies navigate this by applying rigorous human oversight and proven process controls to platform automation. We filter through the platform “noise,” testing new features internally so our agency partners can deliver predictable, high-ROI search campaigns to their clients without trial-and-error risks.

The white-label space often struggles with transparency and trust. How does your approach to data access, reporting, and client visibility differentiate you in this regard?

Many white-label providers operate like a black box by hiding actual ad spend, restricting account access, or relying on confusing vanity metrics. We intentionally take the opposite approach. We advocate for absolute transparency: our agency partners retain complete ownership and full administrative access to their client accounts. Our reporting focuses on practical, real-world business outcomes (like conversions, cost-per-lead, and call volume) rather than misleading vanity numbers. By providing complete visibility into the data and our optimization activities, we build trust through accountability rather than locked-in contracts.

Your emphasis on efficiency and process-driven execution is notable. Can you walk us through how your internal systems or methodologies drive both affordability and high performance?

Coming from an Industrial & Systems Engineering background at Virginia Tech, Fawcett viewed digital marketing through the lens of operations and lean process improvement. We engineered an “assembly-line” approach to Google Ads and SEO setup, auditing, and maintenance. By eliminating redundant administrative tasks and standardizing workflow procedures, our team reduces wasted hours and minimizes human error. This process-driven model delivers two massive advantages: it dramatically lowers our operational costs allowing us to offer affordable wholesale pricing, while ensuring a consistent, repeatable standard of campaign quality across hundreds of accounts.

Third Marble positions itself as a partner that helps agencies grow without competing with them. How do you maintain that balance while still delivering measurable business impact to end clients?

Mutual alignment is essential in white-label relationships. We operate strictly behind the scenes as an unbranded fulfillment arm. We never solicit end clients, nor do we attempt to upsell services that compete with our agency partners’ core offerings. Our focus is entirely on driving measurable ROI for the end client, because when the client experiences sustainable growth, the agency retains them longer and expands the relationship. By taking the complexity of search fulfillment off an agency’s plate, we allow them to focus on client relationships, strategy, and business development.

As a Google Premier Partner recognized among the top tier of providers, how do you continue innovating in campaign management and optimization to stay ahead in such a competitive ecosystem?

Being in the top tier of Google Partners gives us early access to product betas, advanced training, and direct platform support. However, real innovation isn’t just about blindly adopting every automated setting Google recommends. It really comes down to knowing when not to. We continuously test AI tools, machine learning scripts, and audience targeting strategies against our baseline benchmarks. Our approach combines the efficiency of automation with strong human oversight, ensuring AI supports our clients’ business goals rather than simply increasing ad spend.

Your mission highlights supporting small businesses and local economies through accessible digital marketing. How do you see white-label partnerships shaping the future of agency ecosystems and contributing to broader industry growth?

Local businesses are the primary job creators in our communities, but they often lack the resources to compete with massive corporate ad budgets. White-label partnerships act as an economic multiplier. They empower local, boutique agencies to offer enterprise-grade search solutions without having to build costly internal departments from scratch. As the industry moves forward, these specialized white-label partnerships will allow digital agencies to remain nimble, focus on human connection, and deliver high-quality performance that keeps local businesses growing.
