In Conversation with Peter Stewart
What market opportunity or industry challenge inspired the spark to launch LANDI Global across North and Latin America, and what was the vision for building LANDI Global’s presence in these markets in the Amercicas?
Building on LANDI’S more than 20+ years of experience in the payment industry, we saw a significant opportunity to bring LANDI’S technology and merchant ecosystem to the Americas — one that leverages the convergence of POS hardware, software, and value-added services to seamlessly address the needs of payment service providers, Independent Software Vendors (ISVs), and merchants as they navigate the rapidly evolving and fragmented market for commerce and payment solutions. We believe our global reach, our team of 600+ industry experts, and our legacy-free, modern technology stack uniquely position us to maximize value for customers, partners, and stakeholders across the world.
Payments solutions are, by nature, complex. At its core, LANDI is designed to eliminate some of that complexity. We have designed all of our products with the customer experience in mind — a single kernel, a single SDK, a unified developer portal, a modern cloud-enabled Mobile Device Management platform, and SoftPOS — to create payment optionality regardless of endpoint or form factor.
With global headquarters in Singapore and key offices in the USA, China, France, Brazil, India, and Australia, LANDI blends local presence with global reach and expertise across diverse markets. This gives us a true global view and keen insight into innovation and emerging trends around the world, and it reinforces our value proposition: making digital commerce simple and accessible.
Looking back at LANDI’s growth in these markets, what challenges did you face while building the brand, and which key decision became a turning point that shaped LANDI’s growth and future direction?
Building and scaling a business in a new market is always a challenge, and doing so on a global basis only increases the complexity of the task. Success requires a disciplined operator with conviction and clarity of vision. The biggest challenge is prioritization — developing a product and go-to-market strategy informed by the diverse needs of major markets, and of the segments within each of those markets. That requires a willingness to learn and an openness to adapt internal convictions in order to put the voice of the customer at the center. Voice of customer has always been our North Star; the company, its culture, and its mission are built around this principle.
The challenge often becomes a portfolio-allocation decision. With finite resources, we must ruthlessly prioritize and focus on where we can add value — both to the customer and to our stakeholders — as quickly as possible. Of course, speed can’t compromise quality. That becomes a balancing act, and it requires conviction and courage.
Research and development have always been central to LANDI’s success. Why has the company continued to invest heavily in innovation, and how has this focus helped LANDI stay competitive in the rapidly evolving payment technology industry?
Our industry moves exceptionally quickly. The competitive landscape has changed massively over the past ten years: proprietary platforms have given way to open source (from Linux to Android); traditional customers have been challenged and sometimes displaced by tech-first new entrants; and legacy competitors are struggling to adapt to the pace of change while managing multiple platforms and thousands of integrations and applications.
The only way to thrive in this world is to be efficient and agile, with a keen eye toward the future. The R&D organization is central to that. A significant portion of our people are focused on developing the products of the future: finding better ways to solve the challenges our customers bring us every day, and balancing innovation, value, and, most importantly, security. LANDI will always be an R&D leader in our space. Over the past three years, that commitment has allowed us to bring a comprehensive line of products to market, backed by an ambitious hardware and software roadmap that addresses customer needs both today and in the years to come.
LANDI serves banks, retailers, financial institutions, and merchants across multiple regions. How does the company balance developing global payment solutions while adapting to the unique requirements, regulations, and customer expectations of different markets?
Payments is an unusual business in that it is global and highly local at the same time. There are global standards like PCI, but also a myriad of local requirements — country-specific payment schemes, certifications, and homologation standards. On the commercial side, consumer behavior and preferences vary enormously. We must give consumers optionality in how they make a payment, whether that’s scanning a QR code, using a wallet application, biometrics, or a classic EMV dip (and, believe it or not, there are still a few magstripe transactions out there).
The only way to address that dichotomy is to leverage the scale and expertise of a global product development team alongside locally based teams of experts who drive last-mile customization and feed key local market insight back into the center. This lets us manage a global roadmap at the top level while ensuring support for the locally required use cases and standards.
LANDI has evolved from payment hardware solutions to a broader digital payment ecosystem. How does the company identify emerging technologies and decide which innovations can create the most value for customers?
At our core, we are a team of experts deeply connected to the markets we serve. Because we work on a truly global basis, we have a strong view of emerging technologies and use cases. We see a powerful convergence of payment and commerce solutions. Embedded payments and alternative payment methods are consuming an ever-increasing share of the payment flow in nearly every market. Yet, in the end, there remains the need for a secure point of authorization and authentication: the consumer is identified, and the payment — regardless of which rails are used — is securely authorized. The merchant has certainty of settlement, access to key data about their customer, and insight into the performance of their business at the most important moment: the conversion of intent-to-buy into a settled transaction. LANDI and our ecosystem of partners play a central role in ensuring transactions flow smoothly, with the necessary speed and unquestionable security.
Strong partnerships have played an important role in the payments industry. How does LANDI build long-term relationships with financial institutions, technology partners, and merchants while ensuring continuous innovation and shared growth?
Customer intimacy is a principle we take very seriously at LANDI. Our teams are made up of industry experts, often with decades of experience across different parts of the ecosystem. That allows us to serve as a trusted voice as customers and partners address critical business challenges. We strive to build long-term relationships that go well beyond a customer-vendor dynamic.
What turns that intention into shared growth is mechanism. Our partners’ feedback flows directly into our product roadmap, so the platform evolves around real market needs rather than internal assumptions. Our unified developer portal and single SDK lower the cost and time required for ISVs and partners to build on LANDI and bring their own innovations to market. And because we succeed when our partners succeed, we favor commercial models that scale with them rather than against them. Over time, this investment is what makes LANDI an easy choice when customers select partners for mission-critical commerce projects.
LANDI has built trust among businesses and financial institutions worldwide. In your opinion, what factors have helped the company create strong customer relationships and differentiate itself in a highly competitive global market?
Three things set LANDI apart, and they reinforce one another. The first is architecture. Because we built our stack in the modern era, we aren’t carrying the technical debt of platforms assembled over decades. A single kernel, a single SDK, a unified developer portal, and a cloud-native device management layer mean a customer integrates once and deploys everywhere — across form factors, geographies, and endpoints. In a market where our customers are often wrestling with thousands of legacy integrations, that simplicity is a genuine competitive advantage, not a marketing line.
The second is depth of expertise close to the customer. A significant portion of our organization is dedicated to R&D, and our commercial teams are staffed by people who have spent their careers inside this ecosystem — as acquirers, as ISVs, as merchants. That combination lets us engage as a partner solving a business problem rather than a vendor shipping a box.
The third — and perhaps the most underappreciated — is our position in the value chain. LANDI enables our customers; we do not compete with them. In a landscape where some technology providers also compete for the very merchants they claim to serve, our neutrality matters. A bank, an acquirer, or an ISV can build on LANDI knowing we are aligned with their success, not quietly contesting their customer relationships. In a business built on trust and multi-year commitments, that alignment is often the deciding factor.
The payments landscape is rapidly transforming with artificial intelligence, embedded finance, digital wallets, and connected commerce. How do you see these trends influencing the future of payments, and what role will LANDI play in shaping this next phase of digital transactions?
Each of these trends points in the same direction: payment is dissolving into the broader flow of commerce. Embedded finance is pushing the transaction inside the software — into the booking, the cart, the workflow — so the payment itself becomes almost invisible. Digital wallets and alternative payment methods are fragmenting how consumers choose to pay, market by market. And AI is beginning to reshape the economics underneath all of it, from real-time risk and fraud decisioning to merchant insights that simply weren’t accessible a few years ago.
But I’d offer a note of continuity amid all this change. No matter how much of the flow moves upstream into software, there remains an irreducible moment where a consumer must be identified, a payment securely authorized, and a merchant given certainty of settlement. That moment of authentication and authorization doesn’t disappear — it becomes more valuable, because everything else is built on top of it. Our role is to own that moment with unquestionable security and to make it endpoint-agnostic, so our customers can meet the consumer wherever they are — a smart terminal, a phone running SoftPOS, an embedded flow — through a single integration. As for AI, our advantage is architectural: a modern, unified, cloud-connected stack generates clean, consistent data, and clean data is the raw material every AI application depends on. LANDI intends to be the trusted, neutral layer where commerce and payment converge.
Looking ahead, are there any upcoming projects, strategic initiatives, product launches, or milestones at LANDI that you would like to share with our readers?
Our roadmap follows the convergence thesis directly. On the hardware side, we continue to expand a comprehensive line of Android-based devices designed around a single kernel and a single SDK, so a partner integrates once and deploys across the entire range. On the software side, we’re investing in the layer that increasingly defines the customer experience — our unified developer portal, our cloud-native Mobile Device Management platform, and SoftPOS, which turns a commodity smartphone into a secure acceptance point and extends payment acceptance to places that a traditional terminal could never reach economically. Taken together, this is about giving our customers true optionality regardless of form factor or endpoint.
Geographically, one of our most significant investments is the build-out of our presence in the Americas, where we see substantial opportunity to bring a modern, legacy-free alternative to a market that is ready for it. We’re building that business with the same discipline and voice-of-customer focus that has defined LANDI globally. Beyond that, I’d rather let the work speak for itself as it reaches the market in the coming quarters — but I can say that the pace of our roadmap is something I’m genuinely excited about.
