For companies the work around ethics and compliance happens behind the scenes; until something goes wrong. A report comes in through a hotline, a conflict of interest needs to be looked into, a license is about to expire or an auditor wants proof that a rule was followed. All scattered spreadsheets, separate software and missing records become more than just a problem. Ethico has made its business about fixing that issue.
From Compliance Consultants to Technology Company, Ethico started in 1997 as a company called Compliance Concepts. It was founded by people who worked in ethics and compliance and saw the limits of the tools they had. Spreadsheets, phone based hotlines and separate systems often caused problems than they solved. The company grew by making products that dealt with problems. Its early services included a hotline with people, then MyCM for handling cases and SanctionCheck for checking people against exclusion lists. In 2022 the company changed its name to Ethico showing its move into a platform for ethics and compliance.
ECOSystem
At the center of Ethico's offering is ECOSystem, its unified governance, risk and compliance platform. The platform connects case management, disclosures, risk assessment, credential monitoring and analytics. It can also connect with HR systems and other existing technology through APIs and integrations, allowing organizations to retain systems they still need while reducing unnecessary silos.
The company uses in house Risk Specialists for hotline intake and says its adaptive interviewing approach is designed to capture detailed, actionable reports. Those reports can then flow directly into case management, where automated routing, task management and deadline tracking help investigators manage their workload.
EcoCheck
Ethico's EcoCheck platform automates credential and sanction screening, monitoring sources such as OIG LEIE, SAM, OFAC and state exclusion lists. It uses multiple identifiers; including names, dates of birth, NPI information and addresses to help reduce false positives. The system also provides ongoing monitoring and alerts when credential statuses change.
Disclosure Management
Conflicts of interest, gifts, outside activities and other disclosures can become difficult to manage when every employee receives the same questionnaire. Ethico's disclosure solution uses HRIS information to target campaigns based on factors such as role, location and business unit. Its branching logic can also route higher risk responses for additional review, while year over year comparisons help teams identify changes in previously submitted disclosures.
Third Party Risk Management
Ethico's ThirdParty+ is designed to bring screening, document review, assessment and approval into a connected workflow. The company describes the solution as AI-assisted; its technology can screen third parties, analyze documents and draft a sourced assessment, while the organization's compliance professionals retain responsibility for the final decision. The system is also designed to preserve an evidence trail showing who reviewed and approved a third party.
Risk Assessment
Ethico’s risk assessment platform is supposed to make things easier for people. It makes it easy to build assessments. It is also easy for employees to complete them. Teams can make their assessments using a simple interface where they can drag and drop things. Ethico’s risk assessment platform is really helpful, for seeing where the risks are.
Exit Interviews
Ethico also looks beyond formal compliance reports by examining what departing employees have to say. Its exit interview service offers phone, text, web and in office options. More importantly, the company connects exit feedback with case management data, allowing organizations to look for relationships between employee departures, hotline activity and unresolved concerns. It also offers stay interviews intended to identify retention problems before employees leave.
Data Analytics and Reporting
Ethico's EcoReports platform turns compliance information into dashboards and reports intended for different audiences. Executives can view program level trends, while managers and investigators can see information relevant to their responsibilities. The platform can compare metrics over time, identify patterns across compliance functions and generate board-ready reports. Ethico also publishes benchmark information to give organizations context for measures such as reporting rates and case-closure times.
Ethics and Compliance Training
Training is another area where Ethico tries to replace repetitive administrative work with automation. Its platform can connect to HR systems and automatically assign training when employees join, change roles or move locations. Compliance teams can set campaigns, deadlines and escalation paths while tracking completion in real time. The system also maintains timestamped records and tracks content versions for audit purposes.
Policy Management
Ethico's POLICY+ extends the platform into the policy lifecycle, covering drafting, approval, distribution and employee attestation. The solution includes AI assisted policy drafting, approval workflows, policy distribution and visibility into attestations. Ethico says the platform supports more than 40 languages and is designed to provide audit ready records showing what employees were asked to acknowledge and when.
What is really interesting about Ethico is how all their services work together. They do not look at a report from a hotline or something an employee says or a risk assessment or a training record or a review from a party as a separate thing. Instead Ethico is trying to get a view of how a company handles ethics. The company used to help with compliance but now they do a lot more with technology. They think that being compliant is not about having a lot of information. It is about using the information people already have in a way that's useful when it is time to make decisions.
For companies that have to deal with a lot of rules and regulations Ethico thinks they can help by using technology and data and also by using human judgment. This is where Ethico sees a chance to do something. This is probably what they will focus on next.
