Nearly two decades ago, Lonnie Wallace founded Emage Medical with a clear vision: to equip aesthetic providers with technology that not only enhances clinical decision-making but also helps them build stronger, more successful practices. At a time when much of the industry was focused on selling devices, Emage chose a different path, developing solutions that enabled practitioners to see more, understand more, and deliver better patient outcomes. This commitment quickly established the company as one of the longest-standing names in skin imaging and microneedling across the United States.

Over the past 18 years, Emage Medical has grown alongside the evolving aesthetics industry. What began as a company specializing in advanced diagnostic imaging and aesthetic treatment technologies has expanded into a broader mission centered on regenerative medicine and total wellness. Today, through Emage Medical and MODRN, the company helps practices address both appearance and overall well-being. Guided by the belief that healthcare and aesthetics should focus on helping people age better, feel better, and optimize their health from within, Emage continues to shape its future with purpose and innovation.

In this exclusive interview with Business Fortune, Sally Bevans, Chief Commercial Officer at Emage Medical, shares insights on the company's growth journey, innovation strategy, and how Emage Medical is helping shape the next generation of regenerative medicine and wellness solutions.

What was the biggest risk you took in the early stage of the company that, in hindsight, defined Emage Medical’s future identity?

One of the biggest risks was choosing education and partnership over transactional sales.

Many companies in our industry focus on placing equipment and moving on to the next customer. Early on, we made the decision to invest heavily in customer success, training, clinical support, and practice development. It required more resources, more time, and more commitment, but it created deeper relationships and better outcomes for our customers.

That decision ultimately became our identity. We learned that when providers succeed, patients benefit, and when patients benefit, sustainable growth follows. That philosophy continues to define Emage today.

Emage Medical has built its reputation around skin imaging and treatment systems that connect diagnosis with revenue. How do you ensure innovation never drifts away from clinical authenticity?

Clinical authenticity starts by listening.

Our product development process begins with physicians, providers, and patients, not engineers sitting in a boardroom. We spend significant time understanding workflow challenges, treatment outcomes, patient expectations, and practice economics before introducing new technology.

Innovation should solve real-world problems. If a feature looks impressive but doesn't improve diagnosis, treatment planning, patient education, or outcomes, it doesn't belong in the product.

Every innovation we introduce must answer one simple question: Does this help providers deliver better care? If the answer is yes, the revenue follows naturally.

What is the thinking behind designing devices that don’t just treat skin but also change how doctors conduct consultations?

Patients don't buy treatments. They buy confidence and understanding.

One of the biggest challenges in aesthetics has always been helping patients visualize what providers see. Advanced imaging technologies bridge that gap by turning consultations into educational experiences.

When a patient can clearly see UV damage, vascular concerns, pigmentation issues, skin age analysis, or treatment progress, the conversation changes. The provider becomes an educator rather than a salesperson.

Our goal has always been to create technologies that strengthen trust between providers and patients. Better consultations lead to better treatment decisions, improved patient compliance, stronger outcomes, and ultimately greater practice growth.

With AI and digital diagnostics rapidly evolving, how close are we to seeing fully automated or semi-autonomous skin analysis systems from Emage Medical?

AI is going to play a transformative role in aesthetic medicine, but we believe the future is augmentation rather than replacement.

We're moving toward systems that can rapidly identify patterns, quantify concerns, track progression, and provide decision-support tools that help practitioners work more efficiently. However, aesthetics remains highly individualized and requires clinical judgment, artistry, and patient-specific considerations.

The future isn't about machines replacing practitioners. It's about empowering practitioners with technology that delivers deeper insights and greater consistency than ever before. The most successful platforms will combine advanced imaging, predictive analytics, regenerative medicine insights, and AI-assisted treatment planning while keeping the clinician at the center of the decision-making process.

Emage Medical is often described as a "growth partner" rather than just a device supplier. How do you maintain that identity while scaling globally?

We never lose sight of why our customers purchase technology in the first place.

They're not simply buying a device. They're investing in their future, which means our responsibility doesn't end when a product ships. It begins there.

We continue investing in clinical education, sales training, marketing support, business development resources, customer success programs, and strategic partnerships that help practices maximize their return on investment.

As we scale globally, maintaining this culture is essential. Growth should never come at the expense of relationships. Our customers choose us because they know we genuinely care about their success, and protecting that trust remains one of our highest priorities.

The aesthetic industry is highly competitive with constant new entrants. What makes Emage Medical’s business model resistant to commoditization?

Technology alone eventually becomes a commodity. Relationships, expertise, education, and support do not.

Many companies can manufacture a device. Far fewer can help a practice integrate that technology successfully, train staff effectively, create treatment protocols, market services, increase patient conversion, and build recurring revenue streams.

Our competitive advantage isn't just what we sell. It's the ecosystem we provide around it. That's much harder to replicate and creates lasting value for our customers.

Where do you see the biggest disruption happening in the medical aesthetics industry over the next 5 to 10 years, and how is Emage Medical responding to it?

The lines between aesthetics, wellness, longevity, and regenerative medicine are disappearing. Patients increasingly want solutions that improve both how they look and how they feel. The future belongs to practices that can address the whole patient rather than isolated concerns.

We believe regenerative medicine, biologics, peptides, advanced diagnostics, AI-powered assessment tools, and personalized treatment pathways will reshape the industry over the next decade. In response, we've expanded our regenerative medicine and wellness platform, helping providers integrate aesthetic technology, wellness solutions, and patient optimization strategies under one umbrella. We see this convergence as one of the most significant opportunities in healthcare today and are proud to be helping lead that evolution.
