Ahold Delhaize, the parent company of Giant, Stop & Shop, and other grocers, is pushing for a wider adoption of technology, which coincides with the appointment of a CTO.
CEO Frans Muller stated during a May earnings conference that finding innovative solutions and utilizing data and AI are both essential elements that allow them to develop for efficiency and growth. Throughout the quarter, they have made significant progress in this area, with a number of projects that we think will eventually grow.
Ann Dozier became the CIO of Ahold Delhaize's U.S. branch in February. Dozier was hired to oversee IT operations for Ahold Delhaize's U.S. supermarket brands with an emphasis on omnichannel after serving as the Chief Information and Technology Officer (CTO) at Southern Glazer's Wine & Spirits.
Following a cybersecurity breach in November 2024 that exposed the data of over 2 million current and former employees and caused e-commerce systems to be disrupted for several days, Ahold Delhaize has also been enduring the consequences.
In order to promote cost-effectiveness and productivity, other food retailers have also been honing their technological strategies. To streamline operations, the U.S. supermarket company Giant Eagle declared in June that it has implemented a cloud-based warehouse management system. Walmart-owned Sam's Club is aiming to enhance online purchasing for consumers, including moving its app to the same platform that Walmart uses, to support its membership growth goals.
Albertsons stated that it is attempting to strengthen its data science skills in the midst of a drive for productivity and AI adoption following a botched merger with rival supermarket chain Kroger.
In an April earnings call, CEO Susan Morris stated that the company's three-year cost-cutting plan includes technological advancements, including a real-time, comprehensive data platform. The announcement was made in January.
