Judge Slams DHS for Ignoring Deportation Order in Migrant Case

The deportation of eight men to South Sudan, according to a federal judge, clearly violated his ruling that migrants must be given the opportunity to contest their expulsion to third countries.

Judge Brian Murphy's decision on Wednesday was the most recent development in a rapidly developing case. He had instructed US officials to detain the men one day earlier because he was concerned that the US had violated his directive not to transport migrants to countries other than their own without first giving them an opportunity to express their concerns.

When the Department of Homeland Security deported "uniquely barbaric monsters" found guilty of crimes including murder, South Sudan was not the final destination.

Judge Murphy said that the Department of Homeland Security's attempts to deport the men are unquestionably against the court's order at a hearing on Wednesday, according to CBS News, the BBC's US partner.

According to Judge Murphy, there is no way for anybody to claim that these people had a significant chance to oppose. His directives, according to Justice Department lawyers, were ambiguous and had caused "misunderstandings."

According to Reuters, a Justice Department lawyer earlier acknowledged the plane carrying the deportees had landed, but he would not say where, citing very significant operational and safety concerns.

The judge has said he would make a decision on another day about whether to punish Homeland Security officers in contempt of court.

Earlier Wednesday, the departments shared on X the images, nationalities, and criminal convictions of the eight people on board the deportation plane. They are considered citizens of Cuba, Laos, Mexico, South Sudan, Myanmar, and Vietnam, among other nations.

All of them were found guilty of a horrible crime, including rape, child rape, murder, or rape of a victim who was mentally or physically disabled, according to Department spokeswoman Tricia McLaughlin, who made this announcement during a briefing earlier on Wednesday. She also mentioned that a US judge trying to control US foreign policy and national security was ridiculous.

They can also look for a secure third country if they can't find a country that will take their citizens, said Todd Lyons, director of immigration and customs enforcement.
