Australia Boosts Maritime Security Ties with Pacific Partners

The first airborne and marine surveillance mission for Operation Solania in the Republic of the Marshall Islands has been finished by the Australian Defence Force this year.

The Pacific Islands Forum Fisheries Agency (FFA) is working with the ADF as part of Operation Solania to identify and discourage illicit, unreported, and unregulated fishing activity. Pacific Island nations that support regional security with intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance are assisted by ADF assets.

The FFA was created as a coordinating and consulting organization to help member countries manage and improve their fisheries resources. In their Exclusive Economic Zones (EEZ), FFA members collaborate to plan air and sea surveillance missions. ADF soldiers and assets, as well as Australia's Pacific Maritime Security Program, assist the FFA.

To assist with the maritime surveillance of RMI's EEZ, the ADF sent a Royal Australian Air Force C-27J Spartan from 35 Squadron with auxiliary staff to Kwajalein during this iteration of Operation Solania. Australia is still dedicated to collaborating with the RMI to combat the danger that transnational crime and the illicit, unreported, and uncontrolled use of natural resources pose to economic growth and territorial sovereignty.

The ADF is dedicated to collaborating with Pacific allies to combat the illicit exploitation of national resources and fisheries, according to Vice Admiral Justin Jones, Chief of Joint Operations.
