Inquiry into Grooming Gang Scandal Denied Amid Controversy

The grooming gang has long history of notoriousness in the United Kingdoms, from harassing to sexually abusing underage girls. The men in the gang were found to be of Pakistani origin.

British legislators have rejected the Conservative Party's proposal to launch a fresh national probe into the grooming gang’s issue. The notion, which was included to the Children's Wellbeing and Schools Bill, was defeated in the House of Commons by 364 votes to 111, a 253-vote margin.

The ruling Labor Party slammed the Conservatives for trying to mess up the Children’s Wellbeing and Schools Bill. This bill has plans to protect children, control home-schooling, and make changes to academies. Labor Party stated the Conservatives were trying to stop the bill from moving forward by adding the idea of a national inquiry.

The grooming scandal, which began in 2010, includes British-Pakistani males abusing young girls in towns such as Rochdale, Oldham, and Rotherham. A 2014 study discovered that 1,400 children were exploited in Rotherham between 1997 and 2013, while over 1,000 girls were assaulted in Telford over four decades. Another study from 2022 stated that child sexual abuse was rampant in England and Wales, but did not particularly address these occurrences.

During the discussion, Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch accused Labor of concealing the facts by opposing a fresh probe. She said that no appropriate inquiry had been conducted into the racial or cultural aspects of the atrocities. Prime Minister Keir Starmer responded, claiming Badenoch was politicizing the matter and pointing out that she did not mention it during her tenure in the previous Conservative government.
