In the AFC championship game, the Kansas City Chiefs defeated the Buffalo Bills 32-29, preserving their chance to make history.
With a chance to save their season, Buffalo's attack had the ball close to midfield as they faced fourth-and-five. Josh Allen was forced to try a long shot to tight end Dalton Kincaid, as Kansas City delivered a cornerback blitz. The victory and the Chiefs' attempt to win the Super Bowl for a record third time in a row were secured by two first downs.
With a three-and-out to start the game, Buffalo's start was lackluster. To grab an early 7-0 lead, the Chiefs took advantage of the situation and drove 90 yards for a score. The visitors seized a 10–7 lead early in the second quarter as Buffalo responded with a field goal and a Patrick Mahomes fumble resulted in a Bills score.
The first seven of Kansas City's 14 points came from a touchdown throw from Mahomes to Xavier Worthy, and the second came from a one-yard run by Mahomes. Before halftime, Buffalo pulled together another touchdown drive to reduce the Chiefs' advantage to 21-16.
The Bills reacted effectively to start the second half, recording two defensive stops and James Cook's one-yard run for the game-winning touchdown. The Bills maintained a 22–21 lead despite failing their second two-point conversion try of the evening.
