Beyoncé, Taylor Swift, and Bruce Springsteen are all owned by Kamala Harris. Hulk Hogan, Waka Flocka Flame, and Kid Rock are all supporters of Donald Trump.
Democrats are clearly relying on their star power edge as the 2024 campaign enters its last week. They are urging a wide range of celebrities to support Harris, energize audiences, and, they hope, encourage people to cast ballots.
When energy and attention are crucial, Democrats have historically capitalized on their star edge to end presidential campaigns. This advantage has increased during Trump's ascent, when a number of famous people—including apolitical celebrities—have spoken out against the Republican leader. The advantage frequently results in wild, flaming gatherings during the last days of a race, but history shows that the fervor at those events may occasionally mask more serious problems with a candidate, as seen by Hillary Clinton's 2016 campaign.
Music icon Stevie Wonder of Jonesboro, Georgia, helped Harris a few weeks prior to the election on October 20 by energizing churchgoers with a performance of Bob Marley's "Redemption Song." A few days later, Harris and former President Barack Obama led a protest in Atlanta that included speeches from actor Samuel L. Jackson and renowned director Spike Lee, as well as a performance by Springsteen. The campaign then held an event in Texas the next day, where Beyonce gave a speech and Willie Nelson performed.
The celebrity drive has also helped Harris' running partner, Minnesota Governor Tim Walz. Earlier this month, singer-songwriter James Taylor gave performances at venues in North Carolina alongside the governor. Additionally, Walz and Harris performed at a Michigan event on Monday, which featured a five-song set by singer-songwriter Maggie Rogers.
