In celebration of NAIDOC Week, Australian management consultant OCM released its first Reconciliation Action Plan (RAP), joining more than 2,500 organizations nationwide.
First Nations Consultants, as well as proud Bundjalung woman Janelle Brown, assisted in the development of the RAP, while Yidinji Mallanbarra nation artist Christie Jacobs supplied a visual depiction of the reconciliation process.
According to OCM, their "Reflect" RAP encapsulates the company's vision for a future that is more integrated, sustainable, and that values the rights, cultures, histories, and voices of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples.
According to Pamela Robertson-Gregg, national managing partner of OCM, their goal was to leave a lasting legacy and have a good impact on their communities, businesses, and people. She continued by saying that OCM sincerely believed in the transforming impact of diversity & inclusion in the workplace and that they were a company that embraced varied skills and cultures. People and connections, in Pamela's words, were the lifeblood of their company.
Reconciliation Australia's RAP program, which was first launched in 2006, offers a strategic framework for advancing an organization's involvement in indigenous reconciliation both internally and in the communities where it operates. The program takes into account five dimensions: institutional integrity, unity, race relations, equality and equity, and historical acceptance.
The first of four stages, "Reflect," establishes a roadmap for meaningful participation and solidifies an organization's corporate social responsibility to take on the reconciliation path. This entails raising staff and leadership levels of cultural awareness, cultivating connections with First Nations stakeholders, and figuring out how best to use its influence to achieve the most impact.
OCM (O'Connor Marsden & Associates) is one of Australia's largest and fastest-growing in-house management consulting firms. With over 120 professionals working across eight offices countrywide, OCM Strategy is aware of the numerous opportunities it will have to work with and hire Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander peoples in the future.
