Russia's war in Ukraine has cost it up to $211B

The Pentagon released updated statistics on the cost of the war on Moscow nearly two years after Russia launched a full-scale invasion of Ukraine.

The country has lost $10 billion as a result of suspended or terminated arms shipments, while Russia has spent up to $211 billion on military operations in Ukraine. Nearly 20 medium-to-large Russian navy warships have been sunk in the Black Sea, resulting in the deaths or injuries of 315,000 Russian personnel, according to numbers released by the U.S. Department of Defense.

These numbers, provided by a senior defense official who spoke with reporters under the condition of anonymity, are partly an effort by the Pentagon to demonstrate the impact of its assistance to Ukraine. Support from the United States for Kyiv not only helps a democratic partner defend itself but also weakens Russia, America's second-largest opponent. The extent of the costs is demonstrated by the Pentagon's estimations.

Nevertheless, the official said that Ukraine, not Russia, was in danger as the war is currently waging.

Ukrainian military in the eastern city of Avdiivka are in danger of collapsing after defending it for several months. Russia's biggest advance since taking Bakhmut last year would be taking the city. The insider warned that the issues in Avdiivka might not end there and stated that the faltering front lines are mostly the result of ammunition shortages, which have gotten worse since the Pentagon ran out of money for Ukraine aid late last year.
